Categories
- Student – These films should be produced by students of secondary or post-secondary schools.
- General Speculative Fiction – Any films from the science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, or similar genres.
- Horror – Any films from the horror, thriller, or similar genres.
Submission Requirements
- Running time for films must be under 12 minutes.
- Writers, directors and producers may hold such a position on at most one submission. No member of the StellarCon Convention Committee may be a member of any team.
- Exceptions to this rule will be made on a case-by-case basis.
- Each team may submit one film.

- Submission is free.
- Student films must be written, directed, edited and produced by students. A majority of the cast should also be students. Students working on a film need not be attending the same institution.
- Teams may not use copyrighted or trademarked material without the express written permission of its owner. In particular, teams must have permissions for all music they use in their films. Teams should also have permission to use any filming locations.
- Films should be submitted on playable dvds. At least 2 copies should be submitted.
- As this is a family friendly convention, films containing graphic sexual or violent content may be disqualified at the discretion of the convention. Teams may request a preliminary assessment by the convention committee no later than 1 month before the final submission deadline.
- All films must be submitted by January 31, 2012.

Showings
- As many films from each category as possible will be shown on Saturday night.
- Teams will be notified in advance if their films are to be shown.
- Those teams will receive a single free weekend membership to StellarCon 36.
- StellarCon and its parent organization, the UNCG Science Fiction Fantasy Federation may hold additional viewings of submitted films. No admission fee will be charged for any other such viewings.
